Rumble in the Jumble 3
This event is the third is the series. Rumble In The Jumble is a shopping experience bringing together vintage, handmade and retail homewares, clothing and accessories, all under one roof. The client and I were both so happy with the concept for the previous poster (see further down the archive) we felt we could stick with a similar trashy, retro-chic design in Spring themed striking colours, a wild jungle (jumble) edge and a smattering of classic B-Movie terror... Yikes!
Brick Planet exhibition at Woodhorn Museum
It was fantastic to be asked by our friends at Woodhorn Museum to work on this years blockbuster exhibition, Brick Planet. We designed all the promotional print collateral and had great fun creating the wall graphic characters, all produced in cut-out vinyl. The exhibition is already proving to be a huge success.
As expected... everything is AWESOME!
This is a re-design of Exposure Magazine on behalf of Expo-Events. This was designed for the NE Expo event, held in November 2014 and showcased other events happening in London that month too. The magazine makeover included new cover masthead and new, fresher layouts throughout, giving a clean, uncluttered, modern feel incorporating as much clear space as possible, dictated by the content of the articles.
Heritage Cartography Maps
Peter Adams, Cartographer, ex Ordnance Survey, has been producing Victorian maps for sale in retail outlets for over three decades. Peter needed to improve his homemade map covers to satisfy a new publishing deal. We were called in and offered various design options from oldschool Victorian to modern minimal and the oldschool style won the vote. It gave us the opportunity to step back in time and research the Victorian style of woodcut elements and flourishes combined with traditional letterpress type but re-invented in a modern way. We now have a further 199 covers to create and we're very excited to see them all published.
St. Bede's School Prospectus
We worked with St Bede’s Catholic School to develop their brand across various media both on and offline. We are delighted with our prospectus design which carries the message in a clean, modern and fresh way using minimal text and large images that act as a focal point of each spread. Each image is a snapshot in the daily life of St Bede’s students and perfectly illustrates their journey through school.
The prospectus is oversize A4 with a handy glued pocket on the inside back cover that comfortably accepts A4 information sheets. The cover is matt laminated and both cover and text pages printed on a crisp white silk stock.
Rumble In The Jumble 2
This event is the second of it's kind, rebranded and relaunched just over a year after the first event. Rumble In The Jumble is a shopping experience bringing together vintage, handmade and retail homewares, clothing and accessories all under one roof. The concept for this poster and flyer was simple. Trashy, retro-chic in striking colours, a wild jungle theme and a touch of the glamerous were the order of the day. 1950's terror-style B-Movie poster wording came in handy too!
The Retronaut Exhibition at Woodhorn Museum
I've recently been working with The Woodhorn Museum and The Retronaut (Chris Wild) to create graphic vinyls for their forthcoming exhibition. The vinyls will be floor to ceiling high and applied directly to the walls of the exhibition space. The exhibition will showcase a handpicked selection of images chosen from the Northumberland Archives (held at Woodhorn). This lead image is typical of the quirky choices Chris found whilst mining the archives. The exhibiton provides an altogether different take on the usual formal, stifly posed photographs of this era.
The Social Bubble
The Social Bubble is a brand new Social Media service designed to help companies keep their finger on the online pulse without having to lift it! Laura Rea, the whizz behind The Social Bubble found that many companies around her were struggling to find the time to post status updates or tweet about current affairs and business news. With packages to suit every budget The Social Bubble are sure to be able to help you be seen and heard out there on the big World Wide Web.
Red Square Design were asked to design the branding and logo for The Social Bubble and came up with this playful bubble concept in pretty pastels and a tightly scripted font keeping the image modern with a retro feel.
The business cards will be die cut in a round shape as seen to keep in with the bubble device. The logo will be covered with 'spot UV' a high gloss varnish to create a liquid feel to the overall 'bubble'.
Newstead & Annesley Country Park
This was such an exiting project - we worked with Michelle Allen who is a local artist and photographer. Michelle had been commissioned to promote a new country park created at Newstead & Annesley Pit in Nottingham.
The pit was a casualty of the closures and what was once unused, derelict land has been transformed into an amazing country park. Working alongside Michelle and with the involvement of local schools and community we have created the brand identity for the park along with all wayfinding, interpretaion and promotional materials. The park will make a fantastic amenity for locals and visitors alike.
The branding takes inspiration from the area's mining heritage. Using the pit winding wheel as a starting point we developed the idea further by incorporating references to reflect the rejuvinated site - birds, fish and bullrushes. The fresh palette signifies re-growth and new life.
